Our family stories shape us in ways we don’t always realize. They whisper through our memories, influence our choices, and even impact our beliefs about love, happiness, and resilience. My own lineage is woven with tales of strength, heartbreak, and survival—stories that ultimately led me to a profound realization: one of my life’s missions is to heal my ancestral line.
Generations of Challenged Love
A Legacy of Strength and Struggle
My great-great-grandmother in Ecuador once lived a life filled with love and privilege. She married a man from a wealthy family, and together they had two sons. Their life was idyllic—until the day someone slipped a drug into her husband’s drink, causing him to lose his mind. In an instant, she found herself alone, raising her children and managing their businesses by herself.
Another great-great-grandmother of mine was married to a successful veterinarian. Their life was modest but stable, with a large family and a promising future. Then, one day, he simply disappeared. For fifteen years, there was no word, no explanation—until he walked through the door one evening as if nothing had happened. Without a single question, my great-great-grandmother greeted him with a simple “Good evening,” and life went on, as though he had never left.
Generational Patterns of Loss
My great-grandmother married into extreme wealth. Her husband was not only rich but also deeply responsible. He refused to be a passive landowner; instead, he worked the fields alongside his laborers. But his commitment to the land came at a cost. A mosquito bite led to a devastating illness—malaria or yellow fever, no one knows for sure. Though he recovered, his health never fully returned, and a few years later, he passed away, leaving his wife a widow with a seven-year-old daughter.
That daughter, my grandmother, believed she had found true love. She married an army officer, an engineer who treated her as if she was the most precious person in the world. But appearances were deceiving. When she was pregnant with my first aunt, he cheated—first with her cousin, then with countless others. Over time, she discovered that he had at least two other families. Her marriage, too, was filled with betrayal and pain.
Then came my mother. She married my father at just 17 years old. He was five years older, and their marriage was anything but happy. He was abusive; she was codependent. While she worked tirelessly to support their family, he spent the money she earned. For years, I believed they had at least managed to stay together, that despite everything, they had remained married. But after my father passed away, we uncovered a shocking truth—they had been secretly divorced for 48 years. Their marriage had lasted only five or six years before they parted ways legally, yet they never told anyone.
Breaking the Cycle
Looking back, I see a pattern—generation after generation of women unable to experience a truly happy, healthy love relationship. They endured abandonment, betrayal, secrecy, and hardship. And yet, they persisted. They raised their families, they survived, and in their own way, they fought for a better future.
I believe one of my life missions is to heal my mother line. To break what feels like a generational curse and prove that a loving, fulfilling, and harmonious family is possible. By choosing a healthy relationship, by raising a happy and functional family, I am rewriting our story.
Some life missions are personal. Others are meant to serve a greater purpose—to heal wounds that extend beyond us. In living a joyful, balanced, and love-filled life, I am not only healing myself but also my ancestors. Their struggles were not in vain. Their sacrifices paved the way for something greater. And as I honor their past, I embrace a future where love and stability are not just dreams, but reality.
Through our own healing, we heal the family tree.
The Role of Feng Shui in Creating a Functional Family
Healing a family lineage isn’t just about emotional work—it’s also about creating an environment that nurtures love, peace, and stability. Feng Shui, the ancient Chinese art of harmonizing energy in a space, plays a vital role in supporting a thriving, functional family. A home filled with balanced energy—where light flows freely, furniture is arranged with intention, and elements of nature are welcomed—becomes a sanctuary for love to grow. When relationships struggle, adjusting the home’s energy can bring clarity and harmony. By placing objects that symbolize unity, keeping the family dining area warm and inviting, and ensuring that bedrooms encourage rest and connection, Feng Shui helps remove blockages from generations past. In this way, the home itself becomes a vessel for transformation, supporting the family in breaking old patterns and embracing a future filled with love and balance.
