Imagine your life as a table, and on that table, you have placed everything that is important to you—your relationships, career, health, dreams, and experiences. For many, this table stands on a single pedestal, built upon the belief that life is stable and predictable. This gives you a false sense of security. However, life is anything but static. Change is constant, and when challenges arise, those who believe in an unchanging foundation often feel as though their entire life is crumbling beneath them.
The Problem with a Pedestal Table

When you build your life on the assumption that it is unchanging, any unexpected shift can feel catastrophic. A job loss, a breakup, or a health issue might shake your entire worldview, leaving you feeling ungrounded. Because everything rests on a single false belief in stability or security, the inevitable disruptions of life can cause emotional turmoil and anxiety.
The Strength of a Multi-Legged Table
Now, imagine restructuring your life table. Instead of a pedestal, you design a round table with multiple legs—each leg representing a different life area. This table is far more stable. Even if you remove one or two legs due to unforeseen circumstances, the table remains standing. In Feng Shui, these table legs correspond to the Nine Life Areas, which provide a framework for balance and resilience. (Life area 5 is in the center.)

The Nine Life Areas in Feng Shui
In the image above I just used one word to identify each life, area, but below is a list with their full names and what they mean.

- Health, Family, and Community – Your well-being and connections with loved ones.

Practicing Stability in the Face of Adversity
The next time you receive bad news or encounter a difficult problem, try this practice: identify which life area the issue falls under. Instead of allowing it to consume you, shift your focus to gratitude. Recognize and appreciate the areas of your life that remain strong and stable. By doing so, you cultivate resilience and adaptability, enabling you to navigate life’s changes with grace. If you have trouble expressing gratitude, learn how to use a gratitude box here.
A Balanced Approach to Life
Life will always bring challenges, but by distributing your focus and energy across multiple areas, you create a more stable and fulfilling existence, regardless of what happens around you. Instead of relying on a single, unshakable pedestal, build your life on a well-supported foundation—one that allows for flexibility, growth, and resilience in the face of change.
This approach not only strengthens your ability to handle life’s ups and downs but also enriches your experience of the present moment. By nurturing each of these nine life areas, you invite a more holistic sense of well-being into your daily life.
Embrace Feng Shui
Embracing the principles of Feng Shui in this way can transform your perspective, helping you to see opportunities where you once saw obstacles. It encourages you to be proactive in maintaining balance, rather than reactive to disruptions. This mindset shift fosters a deep sense of peace and contentment, even when the winds of change blow strong.
Remember, the key is not to eliminate challenges — that’s impossible — but to equip yourself to handle them with poise and confidence. By building a life that is as adaptable as it is stable, you empower yourself to thrive, no matter what life throws your way. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to do this with the support of a community? So, take a moment to reflect on your own life table. Are all the legs sturdy, or is there an area that needs attention? Begin by making small adjustments, focusing on one area at a time. As you do, you’ll notice a positive ripple effect throughout your life, bringing greater harmony, joy, and success.
