Your home should be the place where you recharge your energy — not the place that drains you out!
If you think of your home as a constant source of stress and work, you’re doing things wrong. If the home feels like another child you have to take care of, you’re not using the power of Feng Shui!
As you may imagine, my home has great Feng Shui. Wherever I look, whereever I stand, sit, or lie down, there’s some source of joy and pride.
But even a home with great Feng Shui can descend into chaos pretty quickly.

From Calm to Chaos in a Single Decision
For the past two weeks, my home — normally a haven of calm and order — was in complete chaos.
We’re not messy people. Our house is usually clean, decluttered, organized. It feels peaceful. Supportive. But a couple of weeks ago, I decided it was time to replace the bathtub in one of our bathrooms, and that one decision threw everything out of whack.
The Tub That Took Over Our Lives
We picked out a beautiful new tub and the enclosure to go around it. Excited for the upgrade, we brought everything home and stored it temporarily in the family room—close to where the renovation would happen.
That’s when things started going sideways.
The old tub was one of those one-piece fiberglass units that can’t be taken out in one piece. They’re installed during the construction of a home before the walls go up. So we had to cut it into several chunks just to get it out. Once we removed it, we discovered the plumbing would need to be moved back a few inches to fit the new tub. Simple, right? Just call a plumber.
Ghosted by the Plumber, Stuck in Limbo
Well, the first plumber took a few days to show up… offered to call back with an estimate, and then ghosted us. Completely disappeared. Meanwhile, the family room — the heart of our day-to-day activities — was blocked by a giant tub-in-a-box.
I couldn’t relax and I couldn’t work out. I couldn’t even get to my exercise equipment because it was hidden inside a storage ottoman now buried under the tub.

Feeling the Weight of the Mess
After two weeks of this, I was drained. Exhausted. Unsettled. The house, which normally supports and nurtures me, felt like it was suffocating me. And when the second plumber finally came, he told us he couldn’t start for another week. That was my breaking point.
We needed to restore order.
So we moved the tub into the guest room — onto the rarely-used bed — and reorganized the family room. The change was immediate. I felt like I could breathe again. I felt like me again.
Are You Sensitive to Space Too?
I’m very sensitive to space. But aren’t we all, in some way?
This whole experience made me think about people who live in that kind of chaos all the time. The mess and disruption that lasted two weeks for me is the daily reality for so many. And I’ve been seeing more of it online — videos of people cleaning spaces that haven’t been touched in years, influencers filming from homes that are clearly cluttered and chaotic behind the scenes.
“You Have to Learn How to Live”
It reminded me of something my grandmother used to say: “You have to learn how to live.”
Living well doesn’t come automatically. It’s something you learn. It’s about knowing how to arrange your home, how to keep things reasonably clean and orderly, so that your home can do what it’s meant to do — support you. Nurture you. Recharge you.
When your home is in order, it becomes your partner in life. When it’s not, it becomes a drain.
Let’s Get Personal: How Does Your Home Feel?
So let me ask you:
🔵 How tidy and organized is your home right now?
🔵 Do you have a lot of clutter — or clarity?
🔵 And most importantly: How does your home make you feel?
For many years now, my home has been my happy place. Sure, when my kids were little, there was more mess and sometimes things got chaotic, but we always found ways to restore balance. These past two weeks were a powerful reminder of how much your environment affects your energy, your emotions, even your health.
You Don’t Get Used to Clutter—You Go Numb
Because here’s the truth:
People don’t get used to clutter.
They get numb to it.
And numbness isn’t peace—it’s disconnection. It’s a sign you’ve stopped paying attention to what you truly need.
