Have you ever walked into a room and felt like time stood still? For one family, this wasn’t just a feeling — it was a literal reality.
During a Feng Shui consultation, I encountered a bizarre but telling household habit: a wall of frozen clocks. Instead of replacing dead batteries, this family replaced entire timepieces. Their walls were a surreal exhibit of halted time — a cuckoo clock frozen mid-cry, a digital display endlessly flashing *12:00*, and a vintage rooster clock that hadn’t moved since the 1990s. When asked why, their answer was simple: “We just never have batteries.”

A Baffling (But Revealing) Habit
What made this situation even stranger was the process: whenever a clock stopped, a family member would go to the store, bypass the battery aisle entirely, and buy a brand-new clock. The old one? It stayed on the wall, joining its equally motionless predecessors. Over time, their home became a shrine to stagnation, with each silent clock reinforcing a sense of paralysis.
The Hidden Feng Shui Consequences
In Feng Shui, clocks symbolize the flow of time, opportunities, and progress. When they stop working, they create stagnant energy — subtly reinforcing feelings of being stuck.
This family’s real-life struggles mirrored their frozen decor:
- The father had been in the same job position for years without advancement.
- The mother lamented that they “never had time” for vacations or new experiences.
- A general sense of inertia hung over the household.
Broken clocks send a silent but powerful message: Nothing is changing. Nothing is moving forward. And that energy seeps into every aspect of life — career, relationships, and personal growth.

A Simple Fix Can Shift the Energy
The solution? Sometimes, it’s as small as a battery.
Replacing a dead battery (or removing broken clocks entirely) does more than restore accurate timekeeping — it helps unstick energy. When your environment reflects movement and progress, your mindset often follows.
After our consultation, the family discarded nine wall clocks and kept only a few on their walls. They bought a pack of batteries and taught every family member — even the younger kids — how to open the backs of the clocks, replace dead batteries, and dispose of them properly.
Remarkably, within a week, the father was invited to join an exciting project at work. The kids started getting along better, and the mom opened a savings account to finally plan for the vacations they had always talked about.
What’s Your Home Saying?
Take a look around your space:
- Are there broken or ignored items (clocks, appliances, decor) that no longer serve you?
- Do you hold onto non-functional objects out of habit?
- Does your home feel like it’s moving forward—or stuck in the past?
In Feng Shui, every object carries energy. If your walls could talk, what would they say about your life? Maybe it’s time to change the batteries — literally and metaphorically.
Small updates can lead to big shifts. Is your home helping you move forward… or holding you back?
The Importance of Trusting Your Space

There’s another aspect of having clocks that are not working, or that run slow or fast — you can’t trust what your walls are telling you.
Your walls tell stories. When a clock shows the wrong time — whether it’s lagging behind, racing ahead, or frozen completely—it creates a subtle dissonance. You glance at it, only to second-guess its truth. That uncertainty lingers: If I can’t trust this, what else here is unreliable?

In Feng Shui, your environment is a mirror of your life, and when the objects within it send mixed signals, it chips away at your sense of stability. There’s an old Chinese saying: “All the things in your home are talking to you—make sure they have nice things to say.” Broken clocks whisper doubt; stuck hands murmur stagnation. But a home where everything works in harmony? That’s a space you can trust. That’s a home that tells the story of a life moving forward, not stuck in place. So ask yourself: Are my walls telling me the truth? And if not, maybe it’s time to change the narrative.

The article reminded me of a clock I have, that doesn’t work ,just sits in the display case like a trinket.
I feel all the hidden consequences you are talking about. In short Nothing is changing. Nothing is moving forward.
I took a look around my space and I have appliances that I don`t use anymore, a lamp I never turn on… they are part of the landscape.
But, today, I have taken the first step: the clock is ticking now.
Good job getting time unstuck in your place!
I keep the clocks I use on time, but I realize that I have 10 clocks that I don’t use that are the wrong time. They are mainly antique clocks that I meant to sell sometime when I had more time.
You might want to cover the faces of the cloak that are stopped.
Thanks, that makes me feel a little better. They are not ones I see because they are boxed up, but I still feel guilty because I realize that there is no use of having a clock or watch that is in a box. I do feel like I am not keeping up with time. Also, now practical everything (like a coffee maker) comes with a digital clock.
